more Evelyn & Jason

I hope we get this couple for their wedding. They just have this awesome thing about them; I just have so much fun working on their photos. I'm feeling more confident in my processing techniques now that I consulted a friend that I trust critique my work. I have this habit of getting closed off and one track minded. It was a refreshing experience to let her into my thinking.

If you want to see even more of their photos, head over to Susan's blog.

first look: Evelyn & Jason

i probably shouldn't show this yet, just thought it was a very interesting look. Jason's shirt, on any normal day in seattle, would look great against a grey overcast sky. but it was odd; apparently there is this big blue thing up there that non-seattle people call the "sky"... and for the past few weeks has been showing itself quite often. the only "off" thing about this great occurrence is the fact Jason's shirt blended in with the sky. hence this very interesting processing.

i like it, to understate my feelings. oh, and more photos of them will be up soon. this one was just too good not to post, then stare at for a little bit.

nip + tuck

it's a common story: brides trimming down to fit into the dress. but 2 years later, the dress doesn't fit well. when i was out on the shoot with Amber & Andy on sunday, Amber made it very clear she expected altercations to the photos.

it's not a practice i do very often. the way i see it, not only is it time consuming for me, but it walks this very fine line in the vast grey area of photography and the digital arena. personally, i wouldn't like photos of me drastically altered. but if the client wants the touchups done, then its just strengthens our services. in the end, even though i can do it, i still prefer the other route of cropping in post/staging during the session over this, but since i talked to Amber directly, i feel a little more comfortable doing this.

sunday night fun

to cap off a good weekend that involved fireworks and breaking a toilet that flooded the bathroom (don't ask), i called Susan up to work on our style some more. this time we included the help of Amber & Andy to be our models out on a field... dressed up... with cars driving by staring. i don't get it; what's the problem? i see nothing wrong with that situation. wedding dress, field of grass, a photographer and some lights. nothing weird at all.

right?

liking "the look"

i think after all this time, Susan and I are finally narrowing down creating a very cool style that i think i'm finally content with to process our photography with. i really like how we highlight the subjects (this case Heather and Bill) and darken the background.

i just have a good (& really easy) way to handle "natural light" situations: convert to a warm black & white!

all in all, this process is a) REALLY good looking and b) easy and fast; critical when doing a big wedding album.

first post

tired of "designing a site", lets just go easy and let it just be about the writing. i've sat on my hands for 4 years and haven't had a blog JUST because i didn't want to design do the code.
